The Red Reef Golf Course
At the south end of the park, straddling A1A, the Alan C. Alford Red Reef Family Golf Course is a 9-hole executive course that has been played since 1957. It starts with the Intracoastal Waterway as a backdrop and finishes among the dunes, a short, friendly round with ocean views.
What's here
- 9 holes, par 32: five par 4s and four par 3s.
- 1,357 yards from the white tees and 1,187 from the red.
- Seashore Paspalum turf, a salt-tolerant grass, since 2001.
- Views of the Intracoastal Waterway and the dunes.
Good to know
The course is run by the City of Boca Raton's Recreation Services, which lists rates, hours and tee times on myboca.us. It's a good course for juniors, beginners and a quick round.
The course
Holes range from 65 to 227 yards from the white tees. The par 3s are 132, 116, 65 and 86 yards, and the par 4s run 176, 185, 205, 165 and 227 yards, so you'll use most of your bag without needing a driver on every hole. From the red tees the course plays 1,187 yards.
In 2001 the course switched to Seashore Paspalum, a turfgrass that tolerates salt spray and brackish water and needs fewer chemicals, which suits a course this close to the ocean.
Who it suits
The short layout and family name say it all: it's ideal for kids learning the game, beginners, seniors and anyone who wants a scenic nine without a full afternoon's commitment.
Booking and tips
Check the City of Boca Raton's golf pages for current rates and to book tee times. Play early in summer to beat the heat, and bring a light bag: walking is easy on a course this short. Pair a morning round with an afternoon at the beach or Gumbo Limbo.
