Good to know

Picnics and the playground

The picnic area sits in a small coastal forest that gives real shade, a relief on a hot beach day. With 54 grills there's usually one free, though weekends and holidays fill up; arrive early to claim a table near the playground if you have kids. Pack charcoal, and remember that alcohol and Styrofoam are prohibited.

The boardwalk and trail

The boardwalk was designed so people of all mobility levels can reach an ocean view, and a walking trail links the park's areas. The park also has 12 accessible parking spaces.

Beach weddings

Red Reef's oceanfront wedding site takes ceremonies of 100 guests or fewer. The fee is $250 for residents and $500 for non-residents, electricity is available on request, and reservations are taken up to 12 months ahead through the city at 561-393-7807. Remember the park's rules: no alcohol, balloons or confetti.

A bit of history

Red Reef is one of the beach parks Boca Raton bought with a series of bond issues from the late 1960s to the mid-1970s, which set aside more than 100 acres of beachfront as public green space instead of high-rises.
